The Hotel & Restaurant Orchidee is run by the Lebensart Foundation in Bärau. At Lebensart, as in the Hotel & Restaurant Orchidee we employ people with disabilities. Hence, we provide adapted workplaces and measures for occupational integration.

The Lebensart Foundation is an independent foundation based in the town of Bärau. It offers comprehensive services for people with disabilities and elderly people with different care needs. And this for more than 230 years.

While you enjoy lunch or a coffee with us, you can marvel at and shop for the unique products from the Lebensart businesses. You will find selected products here that have been manufactured or refined with much passion and commitment by the Lebensart Foundation. People with disabilities are significantly involved in the manufacturing process.

In 2012, the Lebensart Foundation took over the vacated building at Schmiedengasse 20 in Burgdorf and opened the Hotel & Restaurant Orchidee Burgdorf in the spring of 2013. The building, which was extensively remodelled at the time, looks back on a long and eventful history.

In 1865, a huge fire raged in the upper town, which left Schmiedengasse in ruins. A magnificent villa was later built at the current location. In the years 1959-1973, it became the Strauss department store. Shortly before the 100th anniversary in 2008, the department store, which at that time was already running under the name Manor, got closed.
